FOR BUILDERS / TENDERS
Slip testing for builder tenders.
When a Sydney tender asks for slip resistance testing, or names an AS 4586 slip rating, price the site visit, the areas to test, wet pendulum work and the report. Then request a quote so the figure matches the brief.
Discuss a tender testing scope ↗Why a tender mentions slip testing
Project documents often ask a slip resistance testing builder to allow for on-site testing of nominated pedestrian surfaces. The request may sit in the finishes schedule, a preliminaries clause, or a consultant specification. The useful step is to read what is actually being asked: an on-site measurement of installed floors, a classification of a new material, or both.
Premrest provides this on-site testing in Sydney. Share the suburb, the surfaces and any specified rating when you enquire. This website is operated by Premrest; it does not represent a separate Sydney office.
On-site testing and AS 4663
For floors that will already be in place at the time of the visit, the usual brief is wet pendulum testing of selected pedestrian surfaces. AS 4663:2013 addresses measurement of existing pedestrian surfaces. Premrest records the method, locations and results so the report can be compared with the specification you were given.
List foyers, stairs, wet-use rooms, external paths and any other areas the tender names. Separate common-property surfaces from tenancies if access differs. The slip resistance testing page explains how the wet pendulum method is applied on site.
AS 4586 slip rating language
Specifications often use AS 4586:2013 classification language for new pedestrian surface materials. That is where P ratings (for example a nominated P class) usually come from. An AS 4586 slip rating for a product or sample is not automatically the same thing as a current measurement of a floor already in service.
If the tender quotes a P rating, send that clause with your enquiry. Premrest can discuss whether the visit is an on-site measurement, how the specified language relates to the surfaces you list, and what the report can record. The appropriate standard and test method depend on what is being assessed.
What to include in a tender price
A slip testing tender line is easier to defend when it is built from the work, not a round figure. Allow for:
- A site visit to the Sydney property, including access and any after-hours arrangement the project needs.
- The number of areas or samples to assess, and whether finishes differ between them.
- Wet pendulum testing of those nominated surfaces under wet test conditions.
- A written report of the method, locations, recorded conditions and results.
The quote also depends on the address, surface types and who will meet the tester. There is no standard site price on this page. If the project later adds areas, the scope and price should be reviewed.
Quote turnaround
Premrest reviews the enquiry and talks through which surfaces and methods fit the scope before confirming a price. Timing for that discussion, and for any later visit, depends on the property details, access and existing bookings. This page does not promise a same-day quote or a fixed number of hours.
If the tender has a closing date, include that date in the message so the conversation can be prioritised against other work. A visit is arranged after the scope is agreed, not before.
Send enough for a builder quote
Use the contact form or call 1300 207 915 with:
- The Sydney address or suburb and a contact for access.
- The surfaces and an approximate number of areas or samples.
- The specified standard or AS 4586 slip rating, if one is named.
- Any tender closing date you need Premrest to know about.
If the floor is already installed and you need a test before practical completion instead, see slip test before handover.
GOOD QUESTIONS
Before you price the line.
What should a slip testing tender price include?
Allow for a site visit, the number of areas or samples to assess, wet pendulum testing and a written report. The quote also depends on the Sydney address, access and the reason for testing. Request a quote so Premrest can confirm the scope.
Is an AS 4586 slip rating the same as an on-site test?
Not automatically. AS 4586:2013 classifies new pedestrian surface materials, often using P ratings. On-site measurement of a floor already installed is discussed under AS 4663:2013. The specification should say which applies.
How quickly can Premrest quote a builder tender?
Premrest reviews the enquiry and discusses the scope before confirming a price. Timing depends on the property details, access and existing bookings. This page does not promise a same-day quote.
Can a builder book slip resistance testing in Sydney?
Yes. Premrest provides on-site wet pendulum slip resistance testing in Sydney. Send the address, surfaces, access and any specified rating with your enquiry.
